Tsukasa Uemura, a special envoy for Middle East peace efforts, delivered a keynote speech at a seminar in Tokyo on Tuesday. The purpose of the seminar was to commemorate the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Turkey. Uemura emphasized the importance of “close and creative dialogue” between the two countries regarding the situations in Ukraine and Gaza.
The event, organized by the Middle East Institute of Japan and others, also featured a panel discussion with six Middle East experts. Yasushi Hazama, a senior researcher at the Institute of Developing Economies, Japan External Trade Organization, highlighted that both Japan and Turkey have potential contributions to make in Gaza’s reconstruction after the recent conflict. He specifically mentioned Japan’s cooperation in medical care and health care as areas where they could lend support.
